Always Singing

by Randy Schroeder

So what makes you sing? Groups that I am in that are singing make me sing. Church worship makes me sing. KSBJ makes me sing. (You knew I had to throw that one in there). But do I sing when I am by myself. In other words, when I am not prompted by others or the radio or an iPod, does a song overflow out of my heart and life.

So what would make that happen? Consider this possibility with me. Eph 5:18 says “do not get drunk with wine but be filled with the Spirit, addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart, giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus, submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ.” So the Spirit filled life is a life that is controlled by God and not alcohol or anything else. I have not had a problem with alcohol controlling my life, but other things do creep in. Materialism sometimes has controlled me. In past years, I let anger control me. Selfishness at times controls me. Fear at times controls me. And when that happens, I do not have a song on my heart. I realize I am not filled with the Spirit as often as I would like, if I evaluate through the lens of how much I am singing when I am by myself.

So lets ask the Holy Spirit to take control each morning and throughout the day. And lets ask God to speak to us as we continue to strive towards hearing his voice. And then lets start singing!
